
The weather last week was good for crops according to the weekly crop report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
Farmers were only able to work 2.7 days due to some unseasonably heavy rains in areas. The rain is seen as beneficial for both grain and hay fields.Topsoil moisture conditions were reported as one percent very short, nine percent short, 69 percent adequate and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were reported to be two percent very short, 15 percent short, 70 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus.
Some farmers reported that their corn has started to grow silk on the ears, with corn conditions reported as two percent poor, 13 percent fair, 63 percent good and 22 percent excellent. There were also reports of soybeans setting pods, with soybean conditions reported as one percent very poor, three percent poor, 19 percent fair, 61 percent good and 16 percent excellent.
