
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football Team put up big numbers for the second week in a row, and captured their first district win of the season with a 42-7 statement victory versus Boone on Friday.
The Tigers were coming off a 48-0 shutout victory against Bondurant-Farrar on September 19th for Homecoming, and began Friday’s game versus the Toreadors fast with an opening drive 7-yard touchdown run from senior Quarterback Hudson Shull two minutes into the contest to lead 7-0. Following that on Boone’s first possession, junior Maddox McIntyre fumbled the ball, and was recovered by ADM, who took over on the opposing 32 yard line, which was converted for a 32-yard touchdown run from Shull to quickly go up 14-0.
The Toreadors next two chances ended in punts, with the Tigers getting a 1-yard touchdown run by senior running back Reed Obstarczyk, and a 19-yard passing TD from Shull to senior Ethan Uglum to make the score 28-0. On Boone’s fourth possession that started at their own 33-yard line, senior QB Jude Baumgardner and the offense was moving the ball down field, then Baumgardner eventually threw an interception to senior Leyton Gerleman at ADM’s 16 yard line.
The Tigers would turn that into a 33-yard touchdown pass from Shull to junior Cole Waddingham, then junior Alex Jensen added a 7-yard TD run to take a 42-0 advantage into the halftime locker room.
Most of ADM’s starters were pulled in the second half, and Boone was able to put a nice 80-yard drive together, concluding with a 12-yard passing touchdown from Baumgardner to senior Bodie Brogden, making the score 42-7 which would go on to be the final.
Shull had 6 pass completions for 141 yards and 2 TDs, and rushed 6 times for 55 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. Obstarczyk had 6 rushes for 52 yards and a touchdown, with Jensen running 5 times for 24 yards and a TD. Uglum caught 4 balls for 59 yards and 1 touchdown, and Waddingham got 1 reception for 33 yards and a TD.
On Boone’s side, Baumgardner had 10 completions for 111 passing yards and 1 touchdown. McIntyre ran the ball 21 times for a total of 78 yards. With the loss, the Toreadors fall to 1-4 (0-1 in district play) on the year as they will host Lewis Central this coming Friday, and the Tigers improve to 4-1 (1-0 in district) on the season and will make the long road trip to Council Bluffs to face Thomas Jefferson.
