The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Marching Band participated in their second competition of the season this past weekend at North Polk High School in Alleman, and won first place in Class 3A.
According to Band Director Russell Braun, there were 22 total high school bands competing, including nine in Class 3A. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio ADM was able to capture gold with a score of 71.85 out of 100, with the Drum Line/Frontline receiving the Top Percussion Award for Class 3A.
Braun acknowledges that through two competitions, the Tiger Marching Band has two Class 3A victories, one Grand Champion, two percussion awards, with one top drum major, woodwind, best marching, and top color guard individual and ensemble awards. He illustrates that it’s nice to be recognized with all the accolades, but is focused on making great music.
“We really try and emphasize that, even though that competitive side of us comes out every once in a while. But when we go to a show, our whole goal is just to do our best performance, and then just see where it shakes out.”
Braun explains that ADM’s next performance will be in West Des Moines Valley High School at Valleyfest this Saturday, as their competition segment will take place at 10am, followed by a Showdown performance later that evening at 5:30pm.
