After a whirlwind start to the swim season filled with multiple competitions a week, the Perry Jayettes find themselves in a bit of a down period—at least in terms of meets. With just one competition scheduled per week to close out the regular season, the team has a chance to reset and refocus.
Head Coach Jean Dowd and her squad already hit the pool earlier this week in Atlantic and now face a rare stretch of downtime before their next outing. The Jayettes are off until next Thursday, but the lighter meet schedule doesn’t mean a lighter workload.
“We’ve got to prepare a little differently when you’ve only got one meet,” Coach Dowd said. “But we’ve also got to take into consideration our travel times. We go back to Algona the following week, so those make for some pretty late nights.”
Perry has just two regular season meets remaining. Next Thursday, the Jayettes will travel to Algona to make up for a previously postponed meet from September—a long road trip that promises a full evening of travel and competition. The team will then wrap up its regular season the following week, setting sights on the postseason.
While the pace may have slowed on paper, the commitment and focus remain high for the Jayettes as they aim to finish the year strong.
