
Cold weather did not stop the CAM (Anita) Cougars and Paton-Churdan Rockets from playing a girl/boy basketball twin bill in Churdan last night in Rolling Valley Activities Conference play. CAM won the girls’ game 57-32 with P-C winning the boys’ game 52-47.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rockets fell to 2-13 while the Cougars improved to 9-7. The Cougars led 36-17 at halftime. Junior Alivya Smith and freshman Edynn Smith each scored nine points with junior Kaliyah Minnihan adding eight. CAM’s Ada Hansen led all scorers with 23 points.
The boys from P-C are 5-11 and CAM is 5-9. Junior Trevon Keely scored 23 points to lead the Rockets with eight from senior Phoenix Hartman and seven by senior Cayden Stream. Donovan Martin, Hartman, and Bryce Strephenson each were unofficially credited with five rebounds. Keely had four steals with two by Stream. Head Coach Josh Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio, “Great team win with all the sickness we have gone through this week. I am super proud of how we battled and came back tonight. We have another busy week with three games next week. Super proud of the team and effort tonight.” Gunnar Hugueison scored 20 points for CAM. The Rockets trailed 30-23 at halftime and were down 45-33 at the end of the third quarter. The Cougars scored their only two points of the final stanza in the final minute of play.
