The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in regular session.

County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board about the 28E agreement with the city of Jefferson and the Community Animal Shelter. He mentioned that the agreement was for three years, expiring on June 30, 2027, and that the county could opt out starting January 2027. Following the discussion, it was stated that the city revamped its in-take agreement to align with the county’s understanding of guaranteeing space in the animal shelter for the sheriff’s office to transport an animal to. 

Ambulance Director Michele Madsen provided an update on the transfers from the Greene County Medical Center. She said of the 23 patients that were transported to another facility from the medical center, two were declined because there was no second crew to make the transfer and two others, they were already on route with other patients and a second option was used.

County Engineer Wade Weiss said the city of Rippey asked if the secondary roads department was interested in having them gift the former fire station/gym school gymnasium. He mentioned a few of the issues that included logistics and the functionality were among the reasons why he respectfully declined the request. 

The Board then approved a resolution for the placement of a monument to honor the Schoolboy Soldiers of Rippey, which will be near the Medal of Honor recipient monument. They also approved 60 disallowances for the homestead and military property tax credits as presented, along with a resolution to hire a part-time emergency medical technician for the ambulance department, with Jason Spencer. Madsen noted that Spencer was full-time, but took a job at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. 

The Board tabled changing the county’s human resources position. A request from Brent Hinders was received about leaving the law firm that the county has an agreement with and starting his own firm. The Board asked that Hinders formally presents to the Board the benefits that he would offer them.

Finally, the Board approved setting the public hearing date of March 23rd at 9am for the 2026 fiscal year budget amendment.
