District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair
During the seventh week of the 2026 Iowa Legislative Session, Senate File 2390 was discussed.
Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that the bill is in regards to updating school health related emergency response plans. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that while this is not a bill she personally worked on, it is one that is near and dear to her.
“I had a good friend whose son collapsed during a practice. And if it weren’t for the quick and meaningful response that the kiddo got, he wouldn’t be with us today. So I think that there’s some benefit in diving a little deeper and finding out how much need there is.”
Sinclair mentions that some questions that came up that would need to be answered are “How many districts don’t already have an automated external defibrillator (AED) in place?” and “How many districts don’t already have a plan in place?” She adds that the bill establishes a grant program that would allow school districts that need extra support to get an AED and training for it to do so.
