Those looking to learn more about Perry’s previous fires can attend a history program on Sunday.

The Perry Iowa Historical Society will host ““Tragedy to Triumph, Perry’s Fiery Past” at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Perry Elks Lodge, 2823 Willis Avenue.

Larry Vodenik says Brian Eiteman will recount several major fires in the community’s history that have changed its landscape. He adds that Eiteman is the author of “Perry Fire Department 1878-2018, 140 years,” which contains over 128 historic pictures, many of which he will share, along with an edited version of his “Fire Walk” around Perry. The society’s regular monthly meeting will follow at 3 p.m.

Vodenik details that their mission is to promote an interest in the history of Dallas County, with a specific interest in Perry, by encouraging the different historical groups within the county to interact and collaborate. He explains that the group will host a series of programs about the history of Perry and its citizens to go along with the country’s 250th anniversary.
