There were several people on horseback that came through Greene County last weekend on a mission to bring awareness for their cause.
Petra Dawson is the chair of the Greene County Pony Express Riders of Iowa and she says a group called, “Ride 10” trotted into the city of Jefferson this past Friday and spent the night at the Greene County Fairgrounds, on their way to Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines. She explains the next morning, the riders left from the fairgrounds at 7am, with their journey starting from Mallard.

Dawson notes that the Greene County Pony Express Riders raises funds every year in support of the Camp Sunnyside that assists individuals with special needs.
Dawson thanks the Jefferson Police Department for escorting the riders into town, Doug Hawn and the Greene County Fair Board for allowing them to utilize their area for the riders and their horses, as well as the Silver Spurs 4-H Club for cleaning the horse stalls.
