One night after a difficult road loss to Roland-Story in Roland, Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County softball team hosted a Grand View Christian (Des Moines) team that came in with just one loss and was unbeaten in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Thunder roared early and won by the eight-run rule in six innings by a final of 11-3. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed in www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

GVC scored five runs on six hits in the top of the first inning. They built the lead to 10-2 after 4-1/2 innings before the Rams scored to extend the game to a sixth inning. The Thunder added a run in the sixth and the Rams could not resond, so the contest ended an inning early.

Junior Alaina Heard took the pitching loss after going the first four innings. She was hit in the lower leg with a pitch while batting in the bottom of the fourth and sophomore Hanna Fouch pitched the last two innings after the injury to Heard. Junior Bellah Johnson was on base all three times she batted after being hit with a pitch, then adding a double and single. Junior Sara Morlan doubled and eighth grader Delaney Pedersen singled for the four Greene County hits. Senior Becca Anderson drove in two runs and senior Kaycee Pittman had one RBI.

It’s back on the bus tonight for the Rams as they travel to Des Moines to take on the Saydel Eagles.
