A public groundbreaking is scheduled for next week on a housing development in Jefferson.

City officials and KCG Companies invites everyone to the event at 4:30pm for the Weldon at 915 North Maple Street. Vice President of Development CJ Lintner says the 50 rental housing units is a two story design that offers one, two and three-bedroom apartments. 

Lintner points out that this will be KCG Companies first housing project in Iowa with a well established plan to provide housing in rural communities.

“Something that we’ve gotten used to at focusing on, and gotten good at focusing on, is how to bring affordable housing to the smaller communities where the growth might not be quite as fast as in Des Moines, but there is still population growth, there still is economic development happening and you know, at the end of the day, people are just looking for a nice new place to call home that isn’t going to break the bank for them.”      

Lintner adds that KCG Companies has properties in 12 states and with construction underway late last month in Jefferson, Lintner says the project can take 15-16 months to complete.
