As the Greene County Fair continues, so does the amount of activities and shows into Thursday.

According to Greene County ISU Extension, the day begins with the Swine Show at 8am in the showring, followed by the Little Oinkers and Bacon Buddies. Greene County Fair Board Vice President Katlynn Mechaelsen talks about the Bacon Buddies and the importance of having this kind of show.

“They are geared toward kids with intellectual inabilities. It is offered at a time also after the Swine Show, and the only people in the ring are those 4-H exhibitors with the Bacon Buddy themself. And again, they get the opportunity to show a pig when they probably wouldn’t get to in the past.”     

Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Johnson says the Horse and Pony Show will take place tomorrow morning at the horse arena, along with barnyard games in the mid-afternoon. 

The Greene County Conservation Board will host an indoor BB gun range in North Hall from 4-7pm tomorrow. Naturalist Jacob Fernholz talks about incorporating the new activity, alongside having archery the next day, and as a way to promote the Shooting Sports 4-H Club.

“To keep growing the Shooting Sports we’re going to have the BB gun range there to show them that is this something that we’re going to be doing on Shooting Sports. So, just because it’s winter and cold out (and) you don’t want to go outside and shoot, you still are going to have avenues to go ahead practice form and safety with Shooting Sports and with BB guns. So, why not roll it out for the county fair?”   

The rest of Thursday includes a 515 Cornhole Tournament, the Greene County Libraries Association with a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) station in Clover Hall and musical entertainment by the barns at 6pm.
