Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County High School softball team ended the regular season last night vs. Hawkeye 10 Conference member Creston in Jefferson with the visiting Panthers winning 10-4. Creston improves to 17-15 while the Rams fall to 15-12.

Avery Staver of Creston hit a two-run homer  for an early two run lead, but the Rams tied it at 2-2 on a two-run double by junior Bellah Johnson. The game was knotted 3-3 after three and it stayed that way through the fourth inning. Creston led 7-4 after the fifth inning and they added the final three runs in the seventh. Greene County was charged with four errors and Creston was charged with two.

In addition to Johnson’s two-bagger junior Makenna Ebersole doubled and tripled, and eighth grader Delaney Pedersen added a triple. Juniors Kaliyah Minnihan and Sara Morlan, along with senior Kaycee Pittman each added singles. Sophomore Hanna Fouch took the pitching loss, going 4-1/3 innings with five runs allowed, four of them earned. Fouch gave up four hits and two walks, and struck out two batters. Junior Alaina Heard went 2-2/3 innings, giving up five runs, one earned, on three hits, one walk, and one hit with a pitch. Heard also had two K’s.

The postseason starts tomorrow night at 7 in Class 3A for the Rams with a first round regional contest in Jefferson vs. OABCIG (Ida Grove). The winner moves onto the semifinals at Van Meter at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11 while the losing team will have its season come to an end.
