Several non-profit organizations breathed new life into a home in Churdan that is now owner-occupied.

According to Region XII Council of Governments, Churdan 2.0, which is a non-profit group whose mission is to improve housing and businesses within the community, acquired the property at 604 Sand Street, and then donated it to Region XII. 

The Region XII officials then teamed up with Habitat for Humanity for its Housing Renewal Program (HRP) and the priorities of it include expanding alternative housing options by providing gap funding so that properties can be acquired and rehabilitated with the existing housing stock. 

Region XII says the home had several major components replaced including the roof, siding, windows, kitchen and bathroom. They detail that after the renovations were complete, the home was then sold to an individual whose income was at or below 120-percent of the median income of the county. Region XII adds that rehabbing a home is still the cost effective option compared to a newly built home to help with the current housing stock.
