The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Boys Cross Country Team began the season in Johnston this past Saturday for the Sunrise Invitational, as Head Coach Josh Chapman recognizes the good aspects that came out of the performances.

Chapman shares that the boys had to battle weather elements of rain and lightning in the distance, plus some strong winds, but managed to push through. He acknowledges that at this season’s Sunrise Invite in Johnston, there were more Class 4A and Class 3A teams compared to years past. 

Chapman reveals that the varsity roster features a lot of younger guys, which he sees as a great opportunity to grow in the future. He adds that besides the boys running throughout the summer, the team has only done four quality workouts up to this point, so he is happy with the results following the first race.

“For them to show up and run the way that they did, our number five through eight (runners), who are all freshman (and) sophomores, all ran within three seconds of each other. And so to have a pack like that that’s not far off from where we need them to be later in the season, we can get them moving closer to our number four (runner), that’ll be exciting to have that quality pack.”

ADM captured 10th place as a team in Johnston, as sophomore Andrew Coller, senior Ty Miller, junior Jack Leistikow, and senior Max Marple were the top-four individuals. The Tiger Boys will be competing at Iowa State University in Ames tomorrow for the Kirk Schmaltz Invite, starting at 5pm.
