The season opening football game for the Greene County Rams resulted in a 14-7 loss in Jefferson to Boone last Friday, but there were some encouraging signs. For the first time in some time, the Rams started a pair of sophomores at inside linebacker. Both Jameson Daubendiek and Paul Thorp were credited with six tackles, and the Greene County defense shut out the Toreadors in the second half.

Head coach Caden Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the two sophomores. “Those two are both very physical kids for their age and that’s probably the first thing that got them in the position that they’re at because to be at that linebacker spot you’ve got to be physical. They’re both learning kind of on the job about making the correct reads consistently, always being in the right spots, and those sorts of things, so they’ll keep getting better at that. They’ve got that physicality and they’re both pretty athletic kids, so they’ve both got a lot of potential at that linebacker spot.”

The Rams go on the road for the first time this season when they play Woodward-Granger in Woodward this Friday night on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 o’clock.
