Every year each Iowa County has to make the decision whether or not they will grant the County the right to look over and review the master matrix for proposed confined animal feeding operations.  In 2012, 88 of the 99 counties in the state proposed such a resolution, including Dallas, Greene and Guthrie Counties.  The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors have already confirmed that they will do the same for this year as well.

The decision was made at a Board of Supervisors meeting earlier this month.  Supervisor Everett Grasty says that contrary to what some believe, approving the master matrix resolution makes the process of getting a CAFO approved a little more restrictive.  Counties have until the end of January to mail the resolutions to the DNR and Grasty says that the resolutions are simply accepted and do not have to go through any approval process.
