This week is National FFA Week.
Greene County FFA Advisor Katie Akers says there are several activities going on this week. Today, students can wear their favorite farm brand. Tuesday is dress as a farmer and/or drive your tractor to school. Wednesday is camo day, Thursday is flannel day and Friday is wear your FFA chapter t-shirt day. She describes what her chapter does to give students benefits for being in FFA.
“We try to appeal to many different interests. Not every student is interested in working in the greenhouse and judging livestock, but we make sure to offer opportunities that will appeal to multiple skilled areas, so that students are learning real world skills that they can take and utilize in their own futures.”
She points out that they raise tilapia, grow fruits and vegetables, run for district offices, take livestock for judging and will soon begin raising chickens.
The week will be capped off by a free-will donation pancake breakfast this Friday from 7 to 8:30am in the Ram Restaurant at the high school.
