When Greene County opens the home portion of the high school football season on Friday at Linduska Field in Jefferson, the Rams will be facing a junior quarterback who had quite the varsity starting debut. Kody Kruschwitz threw for five touchdown passes. He was 14 of 29 overall for 224 yards and one interception. Two of the touchdown passes were to Andrew Saunders, who had six receptions in all for 114 yards, and two more went to Jakob Strottman, who had three catches for 28 yards. Strottman also ran the ball 25 times for 104 yards. The other TD pass went to Brayden Bottorf, who finished with 38 yards and three receptions. In all, the Cubs had 331 yards of offense vs. North Polk (Alleman) in Nevada’s season opener, a game the Comets won 49-35.

Nevada held the lead at 35-30 with about 6-1/2 minutes to play when NP went on a 19-0 scoring run to end the game and start the season at 1-0 with a road victory.

The Rams are 1-0 after opening on the road with a 14-6 “Cowbell” victory in Perry.
