A recreational vehicle was destroyed following an overnight fire in Jefferson.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy, along with the Jefferson Police and Fire departments and Greene County Ambulance responded to the incident at 11:48pm Tuesday at Wahl/McAtee Tire and Service in Jefferson. Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams says when they arrived on scene, a camper was fully engulfed in flames as it was parked in the back of the main shop building. There was one occupant of the vehicle, business owner Mike Wahl, who was able to get out of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene by Greene County Ambulance.

Williams says due to the camper being destroyed, the cause of the fire was undetermined, but he believes the incident was accidental in nature. Williams adds, some minor damage was done to the sheet metal exterior of the shop building due to the heat of the fire from the camper.
