Iowans headed to the polls Tuesday to pick which names will show up on the general election ballot this November. There were several contested races in our three county area.

In Dallas County, a total of 3,671 votes were cast… just 7% of total registered voters in the County. Incumbent Gene Krumm won the Republican nomination for County Auditor beating Vicki Klein and Troy Weiland in a close race. Current Republican Sheriff Chad Leonard defeated challenger Jim Romar, Jake Chapman earned enough votes to win Dallas County for State Senate District 10 – he faced Matthew Mardesen Tuesday. And Dallas County voters chose Pat Ward was the Republican nominee for State Senate District 22 in a race against Jeff Mullen.

All other primary races were uncontested…. Mark Hanson is the only candidate running for the District 2 County Supervisor position, Ralph Watts is the Republican nominee for State Congressional District 19 – he will face Democratic nominee Kenneth Herring in November. Incumbent Republican District 20 Representative Clel Baudler will face Democratic challenger Greg Nepstad. Republicans chose Rob Taylor to face Democrat Eric Brenneman for the State House District 44 Desmund Adams received the Democratic nomination for State Senate District 22. Current Republican U.S. Congressman Tom Latham will faceoff against Democratic Representative Leonard Boswell in a battle for the new District 3 seat.

In Greene County, a total of 1,402 votes were cast… equal to 20.3% of total registered voters. In the county’s only contested race, Jack Williams was victorious over Kirk Hammer to win the Republican nomination for County Sheriff – he’ll face off against Steve Haupert in November who beat Mark Clouse for the Democratic nomination.

In the non-contested races… Republican Steve King will face off against Democrat Christie Vilsack for the U.S. Representative District 4 seat, current Republican Representative Chip Baltimore will face Democrat Donovan Olson for the new District 47 seat. Current Republican Senator Jerry Behn will go up against Democratic candidate Shelly Stotts for the State Senate District 24 seat. Democrat Jean Walker will face Republican Mick Burkett for the 1st District County Supervisor position. Republican John Muir is the only 4th District Supervisor candidate, Republican Guy Richardson is the only one that will appear on the 5th district Supervisor ballot and current Republican Auditor Jane Heun is unchallenged.

In Guthrie County, Jake Chapman defeated Matthew Mardesen to win the Republican nomination for State Senate District 10 , Jerome Caraher won the Democratic nomination for County Supervisor District 1 in a race against John Millhollin he’ll now face Republican nominee James Carroll in November. Mike Dickson won the Republican nomination for 5th District Supervisor – he faced Robert Schemmel in the primary and will go up against Democratic nominee David Guisinger in November.

Other uncontested race results are as follows… Tom Latham as the Republican U.S. House District 3 Representative and Leonard Boswell for the Democratic nomination. Republican Clel Baudler will face Democrat Greg Nepstad for State Representative District 20. And current Republican Auditor Jerri Christman and Democratic Sheriff Marty Arganbright were uncontested.
