The Pleasant Prairie Farm invites everyone out to watch demonstrations on how farming used to be done, Saturday July 28th and Sunday through July 29th.
The demonstrations will include the presentation of an old-fashioned threshing bee — a piece of equipment that replicates how oats were once harvested using gas and steam powered machinery up until the 1940s. Audience members will watch oat bundles getting pitched into the threshing machine by hand, how the machine separates the grain from the straw and chaff, and finally how the grain is augured into a wagon.
The threshing demonstrations on Saturday are at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. and Sundays demonstrations are at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. For more information call 515-370-1521.
