A reminder to Perry residents, city ordinance limits the length of tree limbs that hang over streets and sidewalks.

City Code states property owners must keep the trees that overhang the street or alley trimmed to at least 13 feet above the surface of the roadway.  Also, limbs that hang over sidewalks must also be nine feet about the surface.

To help ease the burden, the City has a tree trimming service available to residents.  For $50 per address, a professional tree service will trim the trees and haul away branches.

Perry Finance Officer Susie Moorhead says participating in this program can save property owners the hassle of doing the work themselves.  It can also save a significant amount of money because those who don’t comply with the ordinance will have the work ordered by the city and be billed for the job which could cost upwards of $200.

Those wanting to participate in the tree trimming program can sign up at City Hall by the end of business today.
