The Guthrie County ISU Extension Office is hosting a drought concerns meeting this week.
Crop and livestock farmers across Iowa are dealing with drought stricken crops this summer and the meeting will help producers better understand quality issues related to the damaged crop.
ISU Extension field agronomist Mark Licht will provide an overview of the drought and agronomic considerations in the coming weeks. Farm management specialist Shane Ellis will talk about crop insurance considerations, marketing implications and valuing drought stricken corn used as forage. And beef specialist Chris Clark will address information on nitrate toxicity and reduced forage value of chopped corn.
The meeting will also offer an opportunity for farmers to nitrate levels on corn stalks. Those wanting a test should bring an entire corn stock with them to the discussion.
The meeting is free and open to the public. It takes place at 10am Thursday August 2nd at the Guthrie Center activity center. For more information, call the extension office at 747-2276.
