A family owned orchard in Adel is hosting a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day later this week.

The Wills Family Orchard is owned by Maury and Mary Wills who grow pumpkins and organic apples.

At the field day, the Wills’ will share insights on raising organic apples, licensing an on-farm kitchen and how to attract customers.

The orchard lost around 90 percent of its apple crop after the late spring freeze, so attendees should expect to not see many apples on the trees but there is still plenty to be learned about their operation.

The event takes place Friday from 9am to noon at the farm, located at 33130 Panther Creek Road, about 7.5 miles southwest of Adel.
