With school starting back up in the next couple of weeks, it’s important for both drivers and students to be extra cautious and aware of their surroundings.
Adel DeSoto Minburn School Resource Officer Monte Keller encourages parents to remind their children of pedestrian safety such as using sidewalks, designated cross walks and the buddy system.
As for drivers, Keller advises to keep an extra eye out for students who are walking or biking to or from school.
There will be additional signage to reminder drivers. Including a stop sign at 14th and Guthrie Street before and after school and flashing yellow nights on Highway 169 in front of ADM High School, serving as an extra warning to slow down to 35 miles per hour.
Finally, drivers need to also remember to obey school bus laws. When the red stop signs on the bus are extended or the red lights are flashing it is illegal to pass the bus from either direction. Consequences of doing so include a fine of at least $250 and a mandatory court appearance.
