The Perry Bluejays will look to a sophmore signal caller this Friday night as Will Whiton has been announced as the starting Quarterback for the opener against Greene County. Whiton split time last year between wide out and quarterback and was mainly used as a Wildcat option at quarterback. The young left-hander has looked solid this summer and head coach Jason Olenjzack says he brings another dimension to the team.
“We’re built differently as a team this year and we are going to look to utilize Will’s talents. When I took over this job a couple of years ago, one of my goals was to get the best athletes we could at the quarterback position…that’s what modern football is about. We’ve done that with Will as we got the football into our best athlete’s hands.”
Whiton will look to replace graduated quarterback Seth Marburger, who is now a student coach at Central College in Pella, where his father Perry High Principal Dan Marbuger played.
Listen to Jason Olenzack Wednesday morning at 7:40 and 5:20 pm.
