The Greene County Farmers’ market has been a staple to the square in Jefferson since the late 1990’s. And even with the hot weather, humid conditions, and downtown construction, the market continues to draw people in for its fresh, locally grown produce and items.
The market isn’t just attracting customers either, says Market Manager Chris Henning.
“I was involved in 2002 and 2003. It was like 5, or 7, or 8 vendors. And this year at the top, we’ve had upwards of 25.”
The idea of being able to eat “close to home” is also a big draw for many of the people who come out and support the market.
“They love it that they can get local food and that they can get fresh local food” adds Henning.
But perhaps the biggest draw to the Greene County farmers market is the camaraderie between everyone. It is a place where neighbors can get together, share what they have and enjoy the afternoon.
The Greene County farmers markets take place Tuesdays until September 25th from 4:00 until 6:30 in Jefferson.
