September 10 thru 13, 2012
09/10 At 7:04 am, a deputy checked the report of a cow out on S Avenue between 220th and 230th Street but did not locate it. The owner later reported it was by R Avenue and he had put it back in
At 7:59 am, a deputy investigated the dumping of an old stove and household items at Seven Hills Park
At 8:58 am, a deputy investigated a property damage crash in the 1000 Block of N Avenue. Curt T. Flack, 52, of Jefferson was northbound on N Avenue in a 2008 GMC Sierra when he stated a southbound vehicle came over into his lane causing him to drive onto the shoulder where he lost control and rolled over onto his side causing an estimated $8,000 in damages
At 3:35 pm, a deputy and the sheriff investigated a personal injury crash at G Avenue and 250th Street. Debra K. Taggart, 52, of Scranton was southbound on G Avenue in a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van when she was struck by Luke W. Craig Skalla, 22, of Scranton who was eastbound in a 2012 Ford F350 pickup. The Taggart vehicle continued on into a cornfield and the Skalla vehicle rolled over onto its top. Taggart was transported to the GCMC by Greene County EMS with complaints of back and neck pain and Skalla refused treatment. Damages to the Taggart vehicle were estimated at $5,000 with $40,000 to the Skalla vehicle. Taggart was cited for Failure to the Vehicle on the Right. Scranton Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.
At 4:45 pm, Curtis G. Hoyt, 47, of Yale was booked into the county jail after an arrest by Jefferson police for Harassment-seven counts, he remains held
At 9:25 pm, a deputy investigated the report of a fight in Scranton
At 9:34 pm, a deputy assisted Scranton Rescue with a medical call in the 1700 Block of G Avenue
At 11:26 pm, a deputy assisted Churdan Rescue and Greene County EMS with a medical call in Churdan
09/11 At 1:09 pm, a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a field fire one half mile north of 220th on E Avenue, several farmers with tractors and discs also assisted
At 4:56 pm, a deputy investigated a domestic dispute in Scranton
At 6:39 pm, a deputy investigated a car/deer crash on E Avenue south of 210th Street. Billy D. Barnett, 65, of Scranton was northbound on Eaton in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix when he struck the deer causing an estimated $1800 in damages.
At 8:37 pm, a deputy investigated a domestic dispute between parents and child in the 800 Block of Jordan Avenue
At 8:52 pm, a deputy checked the report of a suspicious vehicle in Cooper
At 10:46 pm, a deputy assisted with removing a bat from a home in Churdan
09/12 At 10:01 am, a deputy conducted a welfare check in the 1000 Block of N Avenue. Deputy was unable to raise the resident and entered the home with the caller’s permission and found the resident in immediate need of medical attention, Greene County EMS responded
09/13 At 8:52 am, a deputy investigated the theft of a solar powered unit and fencer with battery pack from a pasture in the 1500 Block of 265th Street
At 10:03 am, a deputy picked up a stray dog in the 1600 Block of K Avenue and transported it to the PAWS shelter
At 10:44 am, a deputy investigated a personal injury crash involving a tractor and silage cutter on 110th Street west of N Avenue. Michael F. Minnehan, 54, of Churdan was westbound on 110th Street in a 2006 CLAA tractor pulling a silage cutter when a mechanical malfunction occurred where hydraulic hoses became caught up in the rear wheels making it impossible to steer and which locked up the rear wheels. The tractor nosedived into the ditch and the driver was totally ejected through the front windshield. He was transported to St. Anthony’s hospital in Carroll by private vehicle. Damages to the tractor are estimated at $130,000.00.
At 11:10 am, a deputy assisted Jefferson police with a possible suicidal subject holding a knife
At 1:02 pm, sheriff and deputies investigated the report of an oil spill in the Raccoon River near Jackson Bridge. The Iowa DNR and EPA were both notified and an investigator from the DNR arrived on scene and the river was walked by a deputy and the investigator and the source was found coming from the 1600 Block of Westwood Drive. The investigation and cleanup is being handled by the DNR. The DNR also is in charge of the news release.
At 2:15 pm, a deputy assisted a State Probation Officer with a home visit in Grand Junction
At 6:02 pm, a deputy was advised of a stalled vehicle at Black’s Pits but it had a note on it that it would be removed by Friday
At 9:16 pm, a deputy assisted Carroll County with a vehicle and foot pursuit of a suspect near Sycamore and 150th Street, driver was not apprehended at the time but a passenger facing a committal order for Greene County was apprehended and taken into custody and is pending transport to a facility.
In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
