Greene County gun holders now have the option of purchasing a plastic concealed weapons permit instead of the paper ones.

Sheriff Tom Heater says his office had money left in the budget at the end of June and was able to purchase a new printer that is capable of issuing hard plastic – credit card like, permits.  The new style also adds a photograph of the permit carrier for extra security.

Heater says the plastic cards are optional and permit carriers can still carry the paper copy if they choose.

The new style cards cost $10, but as of last year, permits are good for five years so holders will not need to get a new one again until at least 2014.

Those interested in getting a hard copy card can stop by the Greene County Sheriff’s office during normal business hours Monday through Friday.
