We all know that fall is a beautiful time of year. But, just like most things, it also has an ugly side, which unfortunately comes in the form of large mounds of decaying leaves piled around the house.
Many people may think that one of the easiest ways to take care of their leaf problem is by burning them. However, for the city of Perry, there are more restrictions on this than you may think, as city administrator Butch Niebuhr explains.
“All burning must take place from 10 a.m. until sundown and is restricted to the private property, in the rear of the property, and must be supervised at all times.”
In addition, all burning must be at least 30 feet away from any other building that isn’t owned by the person burning.
Niebuhr continues, “The city of Perry does encourage residents to find alternative methods to open burning for their yard waste disposal.”
Another option for your leaves this fall includes saving them for compost piles that can be used for gardening next spring.
Burning dates start sundown on October 1st and go until sundown on November 15th.
