Putting together all the pieces that go into making a high school football team can be a challenge of its own, but when Greene County travels to Clarinda Academy for Class 2A District 8 action on Oct. 12, they’ll face a team with extra challenges for its coaching staff. The students at Clarinda Academy have faced issues of some type and are generally assigned by the legal system to spend time at that facility. Students spend as little as five weeks or as much as a period of years there, which means the coaching staffs often don’t know what players they’ll have at their disposal from week to week. Todd Thompson is in his first year as head football coach and a science teacher at Clarinda Academy after spending five years as a public school teacher and an assistant football coach. It’s not unusual for Coach Thompson and his coaching staff to make position changes each week as players move in and out of the facility, which can make stability tough to come by.

The Eagles have lost 25 straight football games dating back to the 2010 season opener when they were 18-15 winners over Martensdale-St. Mary’s. CA is 0-7 this season and 0-5 in district play with their closest game being a 38-6 loss to Clarinda High School.

Greene County is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the district and still has playoff aspirations. Game time is 7 p.m. with coverage on KG98 beginning at 6 p.m.
