Win and they’re in! It’s that simple for the Greene County Rams when they host OA-BCIG (Ida Grove) in Class 2A District 8 football at Linduska Field in Jefferson tonight. Undefeated and highly rated Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) has the district title wrapped up and OA-BCIG is currently in second place at 4-1 in the district and 5-3 overall. The Rams and Shenandoah are both 4-4 overall and 3-2 in district play while Red Oak is 2-6, 2-3. Clarinda 1-7, 1-4, and Clarinda Academy 0-8, 0-6 trail the field.

If Greene County wins tonight a playoff berth for the Rams will be in hand. If OA-BCIG wins and Shenandoah wins at Red Oak, the Rams will still make the 32-team playoff field in 2A. If Red Oak wins and the Rams lose, then the 13-point differential tie-breaker would be used by the Iowa High School Athletic Association to determine third, fourth, and fifth place. The top four teams from each district in 2A advance to the Oct. 24 opening round of the playoffs.

Greene County could finish as high as second in District 8, or be left out of the playoff picture altogether, so although much is still undecided with one game left in the regular season the Rams know that if they win they are in. The Greene County vs. OA-BCIG game can be heard on KG98 tonight at 7 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6 p.m.

Playoff pairings from the IHSAA will be released somewhere around midnight tonight.
