Greene County High School was represented at the coed high school state cross-country meet on Oct. 27 north of Ft. Dodge on the Lakeside Golf Course. Junior Allison Higgins was 51st among 126 Class 2A runners and senior Jacob Simpson was 63rd in a 2A boys’ field of 125. The 2012 season marked the first since 1999 that the Jefferson-based cross-country program had both a girl and boy qualify for state competition.

The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, which Greene County belongs to, did well overall at the state meet. On the boys’ side, North Polk (Alleman) finished as the state runner-up to champion Monticello. Gilbert was third in the team race and Gilbert sophomores Thomas Pollard and Wesley Greder were second and fourth, respectively as individuals. In the 2A girls’ race, Gilbert was fourth, NP eighth, Roland-Story (Story City) tenth, and CMB (Maxwell)  twelfth. Individually, Sybbie Sears of NP was sixth.
