In a world that is becoming more technologically savy, it makes sense that some of our more antiqued forms of communication are getting a makeover.  Whether it is a faster computer or a television with more pixels, the original spirit of the item is still present, just with a newer twist to it.  What happens when we update one of the oldest components to human history – written language.

E magazines, or online magazines, are similar to their print cousins, but are only published over the internet.  No longer does a person have to be holding, flipping and dog-earing pages to get their information.  Everything is just a click away.

Mary Murphy, director of the Perry Public Library, says she does see a slight concern with this techno-shift.

“A technological hurdle for some of the patrons” she worries.

However, even with the slight learning curve, the benefits of e-magazines are undeniable.

“We actually have a virtual branch that is open 24/7.  If you are at home at 1 o’clock in the morning, you can download it and peruse it” says Murphy.

This kind of accessibility to information and entertainment via e-magazines is certainly a step up from only being able to get your favorite periodical once a month.  Because with e-magazines, the ability for publishers to upgrade, change, and add to “last” issue becomes instantaneous.

And even with all the improvements, the technology behind it all will not stop – giving us the question, “what will come next?”
