The post season for high school fall sports in Iowa is still taking place while practices for winter sports regular seasons begin soon. Girls’ basketball teams began official practice on Monday, November 5 while Monday, Nov. 12 is the first official day of practice for boys’ winter sports. Greene County High School fields girls and boys basketball, along with wrestling. GC has a sharing agreement with Boone HS for boys’ swimming.
Chad Morton is the head coach at Greene County for girls’ basketball while Mike McGinnis is the boys’ head coach. Mark Sawhill is the wrestling coach. This is the first winter of Greene County HS basketball where students from the East Greene and Jefferson-Scranton districts will play as one team. The combined teams will have a number of letter winners back from the 2011-12 season. Wrestling has had students from J-S, EG, and Paton-Churdan in the past, but only J-S students were on the squad last season. It remains to be seen if that will be the case this winter.
