A 20 year-old Perry man is facing several charges after taking a motor vehicle and eluding an officer in Jefferson last week.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2002 Chrysler Concorde was reported stolen from a residence in Jefferson October 30th.  Sheriff Tom Heater located the vehicle and a pursuit began on Highway 4 southbound out of Jefferson.  Matthew Corrigan then attempted to turn eastbound onto 250th Street when he lost control and the vehicle slid into the ditch.

In an attempt to not strike the vehicle, Sheriff Heater had to steer his patrol vehicle into the ditch alongside the Concorde.  Corrigan was taken into custody and later complained of ankle and wrist pain.  He was transported to the Greene County Medical Center, treated and released.  Sheriff Heater reported chest and head pain.  He was also taken to the medical center, treated and released.

Corrigan is charged with eluding law enforcement, operation without owners consent, 2nd degree criminal mischief and 3rd degree burglary.  He was booked into the Greene County jail and held on a $100,000 bond.  A preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 14th.

Cost of damages for the stolen Concorde is estimated at $2,000, along with $4,000 damage to the Sheriff’s patrol vehicle.

Assisting the State Patrol at the scene was the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Police Department, Greene County EMS and Jefferson Fire Department.
