The opening of the overpass in Jefferson means that the detour route is discontinued.

During construction of the overpass, there was a temporary 4-way stop sign in place at the intersection of Grimmel and Lincoln Way.

The Street Committee has recommended that the intersection stays as a permanent 4-way stop and to keep in place the flashing lights.

City Administrator Mike Palmer said that the decision to make that intersection a permanent 4-way stop sign area was driven by its citizens, “the comments from the citizens were, they like it how it was.  It just became, do we leave it a regular 4-way or we take the flashing lights down off the 4-way.  That’s where I was like, ‘just leave the flashing lights up as they are cause it’s a little easier to see.”

He says there is not extra cost in keeping the flashing lights with the stop signs. “Those flashing lights are solar powered, so there’s no additional cost to the city.”

The council is anticipated to make the decision final at its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 11th.
