Scammers beware. On Wednesday, Greene County Chief Deputy Jack Williams states that the Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible phone scam. When a deputy went to investigate the situation at the 100 block of Elm Street in Adaza, the caller said that the male subject on the phone had an Islander accent and stated that he worked for Dish Network.
The male subject said that he noticed some interference coming from the satellite dish and needed to go inside their home to check out the signal. The caller was suspicious and didn’t give out any information to the male subject. The Sheriff’s Office was notified and so was Dish Network.
Dish Network told the caller and the authorities that they don’t initiate maintenance calls. The customer must contact Dish Network in order for someone to come to a house to check on the satellite dish.
Chief Deputy Williams wants to remind that if you receive a call from Dish Network notifying you that there’s a problem with your signal and you didn’t call them first, then tell that person you will call Dish Network directly and don’t give out any other information.
