Word spread quickly through Jefferson on Friday about the free matinee movie at the Sierra Theatre.  It was originally setup for students from the middle school, but when Jefferson-Scranton closed its doors due to the aftermath of the blizzard, the movie was suddenly open to the public.

Board Secretary Chris Henning says that the free matinee was a complete surprise since school was cancelled, but she was confident that with the right channels, people would show up needing something to do with an unexpected day off of school.

“We know that we get a lot f hits on facebook and on the website and we are really, really happy that we’ve had so many people.  We have 252 seats and it looks like more than half of them are full.”

Mr. Popper’s Penguins was the feature presentation and Henning says that they do merchant movies every month.  She comments that this past weekend they had their last merchant movies of the season and in 3D.  But the free matinee, Henning says was a great way for kids and parents to enjoy the start of Christmas break.
