Adair County Extension Office would like to remind all 4-H and FFA members that market-beef weigh-in will take place Thursday, December 27 at the Adair County Fairgrounds in Greenfield. All market steers and market heifers must be tagged and weighed to be eligible to exhibit at the 2013 Adair County Fair which has been scheduled July 17th through the 21st.

4-H members who plan to show market beef at the Iowa State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben must bring their animals to the weigh-in between 8:30 – 9:15 A.M. FFA members and 4-Hers who plan to exhibit at the Adair County Fair only will be able to weigh animals between 9:15 and 11:30 A,M.

There is a $1.50 charge to pay for the ear tag for each market beef animal. Nomination fee for Iowa State Fair is $15 per head which includes the ear tag. Nomination fee for Ak-Sar-Ben is $5 per animal.

Adair County 4-H Program Coordinator Donna Wallace says each youth may weigh and identify up to six head of market beef for the lead competition, which includes separate classes for market steers, market heifers, and returning market bucket/bottle calves.  Youth planning to exhibit in the junior feeder pen division can weigh up to six head Wallace added. Wallace explained that if a youth is a member of both 4-H and FFA, they may identify that many heads for each organization.
