It might be awhile before we see any impact from the recent blizzard in terms of drought relief.

According to the National Climatic Data Center’s latest U.S. Drought Monitor, the western edge of Guthrie County and extreme southwest corner of Greene County are experiencing severe drought conditions. The remainder of the Raccoon River Valley remains in an extreme drought area.

According to the National Weather Service, as of Monday Perry has received 0.6 inches of rain so far this month, Jefferson has received 1.74 inches of precipitation and Guthrie Center has had 045 inches so far.

1.28 inches of precipitation typically falls in Perry in December. Jefferson’s monthly average is 1.3 inches and Guthrie Center usually sees about 1.47 inches of precipitation this month.
