Last week, Winter Storm Draco went through the state of Iowa leaving behind more than a foot of snow in some parts including Central Iowa.
Conditions for travel were not recommended but for emergency purposes only last Thursday and Friday. Law enforcement agencies were busy responding to accidents and vehicles that went into the ditches along highways and rural roads where there was blowing snow and white-out conditions.
Greene County Sheriff’s Office reports that there was a total of 19 vehicles that went into the ditches including two semi-trucks. However, Chief Deputy Jack Williams says that his office only reported one single vehicle accident from Thursday to Friday, during the actual blizzard. He comments that right now most highways and rural roads are cleared of ice and snow but there’s still some areas that are still slick. He urges drivers to be on the outlook for black ice as well.
Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reports only nine vehicle accidents from Saturday, December 22nd through yesterday. No reports were made if vehicles went into the ditches.
