The Greene County Community Center will begin its third and fourth grade hitting clinic tonight at the Greene County High School.
Jason Roberts will be the instructor. Director Vicky Lautner says Jason is highly qualified to teach young hitters. Roberts is an athletic trainer with Major League Baseball Texas Rangers’ AAA minor league baseball team the Round Rock Express. He was a pitcher during his collegiate baseball career. He played at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa for one year and played for Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Iowa for one year. Then he finished his college playing days at Middle Tennessee State University.
Lautner says they’re lucky to have someone like Roberts to want to teach kids the fundamentals of hitting. She says that the fundamentals of hitting is something that she feels is key if you want to be a great hitter.
“This will help them to adjust their hitting, especially if they go into a slump during the season, this will kind of give them a preseason start off to hitting.”
The sessions begin tonight and are held every Monday night from 6-7pm at the Greene County High School Gym until February 4th. Space is limited so call the community center at 386-3412 to sign up and pay the $20 registration fee.
