The Jefferson-Scranton School Board met in its regular monthly meeting last night.

Main items discussed were how to handle fundraising requests and installing a reading/literacy policy for the district.  The board approved the second reading of the fundraising request policy in that the board will have the final say whether or not a school/athletic group or organization can perform a fundraiser event.  It was recommended that organizations get their fundraising request forms submitted for the following school year during the summer so the board could look at all the requests at once and decide which ones are allowed to do their activities.  No action was taken on the recommendation.  The board approved all remainder fundraisers for the 2012-2013 school year.

The board discussed a potential reading policy for the district.  More information was needed to make a final decision but items brought up were summer school for those individuals who aren’t proficiently reading at the grade level a student is at and looking at different cases where students could be exempt from taking a second chance reading program.

In other business, the board approved the purchase of 25 new desktop hard drives at a high school computer lab for $12,057 for upgrades to Microsoft programs.
