The Greene County Supervisors met in a budget workshop meeting yesterday at the boardroom of the courthouse.

More county department heads presented their preliminary budgets for the next fiscal year.  The County Recorder’s Office reported that they used $46,000 in 2012 for recording equipment and are budgeting $40,000 for the following fiscal year.  Both the county ambulance and medical examiners budgets were proposed at the same rates of $50,000 and $20,000 respectively.  The Clerk of Court’s budget remains about the same, around $94,000.  However, the Human Resources budget shows a slight decrease of $500 from the current budget of $8,964.

A report was made to the board about elections and what they pay for throughout the year.  They raised poll workers hourly rate to $8.50 last year and so there isn’t a change for this year’s budget.  They asked for another $15,000 to hold for when they buy all new voting equipment before the next Iowa Governor’s election occurs.  There are 6,900 registered voters in Greene County and 70% voted in the last general election with 40% of those votes as absentees.

During the Compensation Board meeting, it was recommended that there be a 3% increase in elected officials salaries for the next fiscal year.  No actions were taken at the Supervisor’s meeting.
