As the result of responses to surveys mailed out to numerous small-town post offices last year, changes implemented last week by the U.S. Postal Service will affect deliveries for Jamaica, Linden and Yale, among others throughout Iowa.
Now, all mail for Jamaica is delivered to the Perry Post Office where it is sorted and driven to Jamaica by the rural carrier. The Jamaica Postal worker is expected to have the post office box mailed delivered by 1:30 PM. Starting March 23rd, the Jamaica Post Office will be open Monday thru Friday from Noon to 4:00 PM.
Mail for Yale and Linden now comes first to the Panora Post Office where it’s sorted and then taken to the respective communities by two rural carriers. Mail for box holders is dropped off at the Yale Post Office and Linden Post Office and placed in boxes by the employee at that location. The carriers then distribute mail on both Yale and Linden rural routes in addition to delivering mail on Panora rural routes. Panora Postmaster Pam Newberry explains that previously, the two carriers out of the Panora facility sorted rural mail at the Yale and Linden post office, not in Panora.
Starting February 9th, the Linden Post Office will be open Monday thru Friday from 12:15 PM. to 4:15 PM. and on Saturdays window hours will be from 12:15 P.M. to 1:45 PM. Box up time will be 2:30 PM. and the collection box inside hours has changed to 4:00 PM.
Starting February 23rd, the Yale Post Office will be open Monday thru Friday from Noon to 4:00 PM, with box up time being 2:00 PM.
Newberry says nothing’s changed at the Panora Post Office and the hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and are closed for lunch between 12:30 and 1:30 PM. Saturday window hours are 8:00 to 10:00 AM.
