You would think that after the Bike Ride to Rippey event is completed this weekend, Perry residents, organizations and businesses will get to relax for a little while… well not this year.

Community leaders are already brainstorming ideas for July when an estimated 10,000 bicyclists will make their way to town while riding across the state.

Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Wilson was at the RAGRBAI announcement party in Des Moines Saturday and says he’s excited about the opportunity.

“We’re excited, I’m excited.  It’s gonna be a lot of work and this is something that Perry is really good at, we all come together as a great city to put forth a great effort.  We just going to have a great time and just showcase Perry and all the great things we have going on here” says Wilson.

Wilson says Perry continues to work to accommodate bicyclists and recreational trail users and hopes RAGBRAI will help shine light on that.

“It’s going to be a great way to showcase Perry, all the great amenities and really put us on the map to be the bicycle friendly town we want to be and have all been talking about” says Wilson.  “This is an awesome opportunity for multiple organizations, businesses and just the overall town”

Wilson says they’re going to need help from everyone in the community to make this the best overnight stay it can be.  Details on how you can help get involved will be released soon, but for now mark your calendars for July 22nd.
