The Greene County Rams completed a successful wrestling regular season last week. All that lies ahead is the postseason and head coach Mark Sawhill is hoping his team will be healthy when Saturday’s Class 2A Sectional tournament begins at 12 p.m. in Rockwell City hosted by South Central Calhoun. The Rams were not able to put their best lineup together very often this season, primarily due to injuries. Despite that, the Rams won the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meet and tournament titles and set a new record for most dual meet victories in a season for a Jefferson-based program. Greene County was 19-4 in dual meets and 9-0 in the conference.

The Rams left several wrestlers on the sidelines last Saturday when they placed eighth among 21 teams at the Guthrie Center Tiger Invitational. Among the missing were Class 2A sixth ranked Dylan Forkner at 126 lbs. He has just one loss this season, but has missed quite a bit of the January schedule due to a knee injury. Jacob Challen at 113 lbs. and Ike Eischeid at 152 were other notables withheld from the lineup due to injuries. Coach Sawhill is hoping to have all three in the lineup when the Rams and five other teams begin the postseason at the sectional. South Central Calhoun and Greene County will be joined by East Sac County (Lake View), Harlan Community, OABCIG (Ida Grove), and Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The first and second place finisher at each weight class will advance to the Feb. 9 District tournament at Harlan and the top two teams move on to a dual meet regional tournament on Feb. 5 at a site to be determined.
