The annual awards night is tonight for the Greene County High School wrestling program. The event starts at 6 p.m. in the middle school gym with a potluck dinner followed by the presentation of varsity letters and other awards. The Rams were 19-5 in dual meets and went undefeated in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meets for the second season in a row. The 19 dual meet wins set a new record for the most dual meet victories in a season for a Jefferson-based program and Ram teams have won 20 consecutive conference dual meets dating back to the 2010-11 season. The Rams have also been the HOIAC tournament champions in both 2012 and ’13.
Eight Rams qualified for the Class 2A district meet in Harlan and three of those eight advanced to the State tournament in Des Moines. Junior Jeremy Scheuermann placed eighth at 145 lbs. at the 2A State meet while sophomore Jordan Challen at 132 lbs. and senior Aaron Beaman at 220 also qualified.
The public is welcome to attend tonight’s potluck and awards presentations.
The Greene County basketball teams will also have their awards night this week. The basketball banquet and awards will be presented at the high school cafeteria on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
